Today I had: 2 tangelos, about a cup of blueberries for breakfast
another tangelo, a salad for lunch
a smoothie (just fruit and ice) for a snack
....and then i broke down and ate almost a bag of nuts which i later found out were roasted because I was starving. am i not eating enough?! i know the variety sucks but i need to get groceries.|||You need to eat more times per day. Every 3 or so hours.
**|||Avocados. If you can't find raw nuts (Whole Foods, or check the produce section of your grocery store) then eat avocados.
Get a raw food cookbook (Raw Food Made Simple by Jennifer Cornbleet is great) and experiment.
For smoothies, cut up some bananas and freeze them. Add fresh juice and berries and blend. It's just like a milkshake!
And no, you're not a failure! After all, you don't have any ethical objections to cooked foods, do you? And it isn't an "all or nothing" sort of thing. "Raw Foodist" is generally defined as someone who consumes 75% or more of their food raw.
Cooked nuts, however, are VERY hard to digest. The enzymes required to digest them are killed in the roasting process.
I've been raw for two years, but I had a veggie burger last Thursday...|||You don’t appear to be eating very much, no wonder you are hungry.
Also, how long have you been eating raw?
When I first started eating raw I was hungry ALL the time – took a good month to settle down.
I have found bananas, green smoothies and vegetable juices to be good fillers.
The book “Green for Life” by Victoria Boutenko – will explain about green smoothies
.|||Make sure you have PLENTY of saturated fats, long lasting good carbs, fiber (both soluble and insoluble), and protein.
Fats help slow down digestion allowing your body to get more nutrients from the foods you eat. (DO NOT EAT TRANS FATS THOUGH). Long lasting carbs give you energy for a long enough period of time without insulin surges. Protein naturally takes longer to digest. And fiber helps with cravings.
Green tea also helps, but tastes nasty without plenty of honey.
Most people believe that fiber and proteins alone are enough to keep you satisfied. But if your body is needing fats/cholesterol then you will remain hungry until you supply your body with those needed ingredients. soluble Fiber does slow down digestion, but fats are also very important|||As with any diet you need to eat enough calories to fuel your day. If you are starving then you aren't getting the right amounts. You can look up sites on line or get a book at the library. Also make a point of finds the Farmers Market in your neighborhood for more cost efficient organic options. Good Luck!|||Well, don't give up on yourself. Try to eat things with protein like soy, and things with fiber in them. The protein and fiber especially are slow burning so you're less likely to snack later, and you won't get hit by the 1 o' clock munchies.
You need to eat much more than that, especially for breakfast. Slow burning fiber for breakfast helps. Don't worry because raw foods typically don't have as much calories as cooked foods, and your body uses it nicely.
Also, try drinking some water or light tea (not the kind with lots of sugar in it, my FAAAVORITE is natural chai, with a little honey and soy milk, it's good hot or cold and has a light sweetness to it that you can't beat!!).
When your body it asking for water it feels like you're hungry. So if you get the munchies, try drinking a glass of water first.|||It sounds like you aren't getting nearly enough calories.
Add something with some calories to your diet. No matter how small you are you should be getting at least 1200 and probably more calories each day. Even if you're trying to cut weight.|||I'm not entirely familiar with the exact rules of a raw diet, but I've encountered similar circumstances as I've been a vegetarian for 4 1/2 years, and the last 3 months as a vegan. Here are the two things that are the best at keeping you full (helping you close that seemingly enormous gap between your last bite and your next meal) Item 1: protien, and Item 2: fiber. Ideally you should get both of those into a healthy meal anyway. Adding lighter things (like your fruit and ice smoothy or a salad) may have some protien or fiber, but not enough to make a lot of difference. They are great however at filling in the gaps between meals, or filling out an otherwise small meal. Also there have to be books and websites on raw diets that will lend support. The Mail Order Catalog (healthy-eating.com) has raw food and books on the subject. Good luck. And may roasted nuts and you stay completely separate. :)
