My pug is prone to struvite crystals and I am curious about the benefits of a raw food diet for his condition. Does anyone have any information? I just want him to be healthy!|||A dog that develops struvite crystals should be on a food with a reasonable protein level (arounbd 18-25%) that promotes a healthy urine pH. I use California Natural for my own dogs (one also used to develop crystals). There are prescription diets available, as well, though they cost more, and often, there are healthier choices available. If the crystals continue to recur, a prescription diet may be the best choice. They haven't been back in my dog since I switched food.|||From my knowledge, no. Our rainbow bridge boy suffered terribly from a condition very similar to this and he needed to be on a very strict diet. As much as I hated it, he needed to be fed a cereal and rice mix (U/D it was called) to prevent the crystals returning. The high salt levels in meats and a lot of veggies are bad for it and it can become a very painful thing for the dog. Your vet should be able to recommend you the perfect food for your Pug so the crystals dont return.

Good luck!
