aside from eating raw meats, not really high on the list for me, what are some good ways to get protein whilst eating only raw foods. I've been sticking with mostly raw shelled nuts but I know theres better things out there.

I'm assuming beans or something of that sense are a source, but how do you prepare them without cooking them? I've read something about soaking, but wouldn't the water take some of the good stuff out? I suppose drinking it would be bad =P

any input would be great, as im really enjoying this lifestyle choice.

2 weeks raw.|||EVERYTHING has protein in it. Ugh. Please don't be another victim of the protein myth.

Veggies, leafy greens, fruit, nuts (raw almond butter *drool*), etc.

You can sprout raw beans (and nuts) by soaking them; but whenever I'm raw, I don't sprout (or eat) beans at all.|||quinoa, beans, and tofu.|||Raw. Mmm. I don't have the time or desire to do it full-time at the moment, but here you are:

- sprouted beans and soaked seeds are good... some grains have lots of protein, namely quinoa
- tofu is *not* raw
- you can make your own raw cheeses and milks and they will have protein
- most foods contain protein, so don't worry too much unless you don't get variety... it's mainly a question of getting the right mix of ammino acids, etc.

Juliano's "RAW: The UNcook Book" has lots of great recipes for raw "dairy" things.|||All food has protein -- in fact, lettuce has some of the highest protein per calorie of any food! Just make sure you're eating enough calories, with a wide variety of food sources, and you should be fine.|||Portabello mushrooms.

And while all food may have some protein, most of it doesn't have enough to maintain a healthy diet. Just because lettuce has a high protein-to-calorie ratio doesn't mean it is loaded with protein - it hardly even has any calories!|||Wonderwall - Since you eat cooked foods, you're more malnurished than him.....

Food in raw form has MORE digestable protein, and vitamins and minerals.
I've been 60% raw for 11 years. I'm healthier than most people. Carol Alt went raw 12 years ago, and regained her health, looks and figure....and is working again.

You don't need the amount of protein that the gov says. The gov is influenced by big business industries(beef ind. , milk board, etc)

BUT, before going raw, you should read all the stuff I've read. You need to understand the detox process. You may lose enery and feel rotten. You should slowly move to raw. The diet requires 50% fruit, and is aften linked with a "fruitarian" diet, since they're similar.

Quotes from the articles:

Be careful who you listen to

I see so many transitioning Fruitarians/(Raw foodists) stuck in their detox symptoms and suffering from various health issues because they have kick started their cleansing process but are not keeping the channels of elimination clear by cleansing, so they just end up recycling their waste and end up feeling worse - and this is the main reason why most people quit|||a good mix of beans, nuts and pulses should get you all the protein you need. soaking beans is only really going to be necessary if they are dried. you can avoid this buy eating bean sprouts.
