Can anyone provide some guidelines? My pit is 15 weeks and weighs 35lbs. I started the raw diet feeding her chicken legs and thighs, ground beef, organs, and such but I find it difficult to determine how much she should be eating. At any single meal she inhales 4 legs no problem. Should I be feeding her more?|||I would go to a holistic pet store and ask about their raw food (frozen)
See how much they'll recommend for your dog.
And i think you need to supplement the diet with vitamins and enzymes. the ones frozen at the pet stores are already supplemented.
Here's a feeding chart for one brand of supplemented raw food diet

|||I would buy the frozen raw food from a good pet store. Dogs need more than meat. They need a balance of veggies and some fruits, plus they need a source of calcium. I use a couple of different brands of raw food that I mix together and I add things like cottage cheese or plain yogurt for calcium and I add pumpkin. I also add a supplement called Missing Link.

If you make your own raw food, you also need to add egg shells. It can be egg shells that have been ground into a fine powder, but as I understand it, it's critical to their diet.

The frozen raw food will have feeding instructions for puppies and adult dogs.|||you should be feeding her 3 chicken necks and when she get older 1 chicken back. i feed my dogs raw food it makes there life span longer and cleans there teeth.|||Puppies can and will eat up to 10% of their ideal adult weight. Join a raw feeding group. I'd say if she is maintaining weight, not growing too quickly and doesn't act like she's going to die without a snack keep feeding what you are feeding. You may want to try feeding her rabbit carcass (prey model) as it will provide more chewing satisfaction. Check with your vet about her growth. Yahoo has a very helpful raw feeding group (well more than one.) that I belong to.

add: Mikk you are misinformed. Do some research. As for BARF, barf advocates vegetables and supplements (to my knowledge) I feed raw prey model which is close to what you described. Good job choosing to feed raw and good luck with your girl!

add: Feeding a dog raw/bloody meat will NOT turn them into killing machines you guys. Do some research before you spew.|||Wow, does this sound familiar. I have an American Pit Bull Terrier, and she will literally eat herself sick. If you put food out, she will eat it. I have her on a strict hard food only with vitamin supplements. She eats 2 cups, twice a day. I'm not sure how you would regulate the raw diet.|||There is a web site that deals with the barf diet. I know it sounds stupid but it really does exist. Plus there is a web site devoted to King Shepard dogs that addresses the raw diets. I found it on Yahoo. I just looked up the diet website it is www.barfworld.com. Good luck.|||You don't feed raw meat to any dog. Nothing but a good dog food that's all not even table scraps. Ask your vet. The only thing you'll do is shorten your dogs life.|||If this is her only sorce of food then you want to make sure she is getting at least 2.5 to 3 pounds of meat. Just be warned that if the meat is bloody your dog will have the taste of blood and at some point may seek it out.
