I just read some info on a popular dehydrated raw pet food maker that says their meat is actually dehydrated at a high enough temperature that it is cooked, yet they call their food "raw". Is this true with all dehydrated raw pet foods?|||Yes it's true. It's not really raw... at least not all of it. The fruits and veggies are raw but the eggs and meat are actually cooked. It is said to be still better than kibble because supposedly dehydrating the food preserves much more nutrients than fully cooked kibble.
It's annoying finding this out after spending so much money on dehydrated "raw" food. It's not really a raw food diet, in the sense of meat being raw. Very very misleading of these companies to be allowed to call it raw when it's not.|||I sometimes feed my dogs "dehydrated raw food" too but it is not raw. If it was, the food would have been totally rotten right now. It is cooked but they use the slow process of dehydrating it. They just take out all the moisture from the food. I'm sure they add preservatives to keep it lasting for a year or more but I guess it is somewhat healthier than those normal kibbles & canned foods. The animals they use for the food are wild animals & have not been injected with vaccins or other stuff. This is what they say but I don't think it is entirely true. If they were wild caught, then they wouldn't be able to produce so many foods to be sold worldwide right? But one thing I have to say about these kind of food is they smell really good like gourmet food but it's bloody expensive here in my country! Why not just give real meat that we can buy from the supermarket or wet markets then & cook it ourselves? Alot cheaper right? But too bad no exotic meat sold here in my country...
