I have tons of friends who are on an all raw food diet to DETOX -whatever???

Why do people believe that this is better when there is scientific evidence that some foods are actually more nutritious when cooked? What about legumes, are they to be eaten raw too? How about potatoes? Someone please let me know.|||People are always getting obsessed with some weird thing they read about. There is always a guru or salesman who can convince the gullible that this or that is the answer to everything. The raw food thing caught on because it's easy to accept the "cave man" logic that this diet is correct for the natural state of our bodies.

As with anything else, it seems like moderation is the best way to do things. It's fun to "change things up" and sometimes eat a sweet potato raw (julliened and as a salad topping!).

Seems like we jump on these "solutions" in an attempt at longevity. Well, we're all gonna die someday, so I'd rather eat my food in the way that TASTES best to me and enjoy my body while I'm able to!|||I think that it is all in perception. I believe that people perceive raw vegetables as being healthier. Therefore they will eat what they perceive as healthy instead of what is truly, healthy.
If we relied totally on what our bodies or taste buds tell us, everything would be cooked <<< well, except for carrots ;-) >>>But we have learned that if it tastes good, it must be bad. This is why chocolate has been so demonized over the years when it is actually good for you. I prefer my healthy vegetables to be cooked and I am healthier for it.
