I have a 4year old pit bull and i wanna start feeding her raw, to help her gain weight, but im not sure what to feed her or what to mix, or how many times a day... Thanks for anyone who can help...|||Some basics:

- A prey-model diet should consist of 80 percent muscle meat, 10 percent bone, and 10 percent organs.
- Start slow. Try one protein source (meaning one type of meat) for a whole week before trying a new source. Good first meats are chicken leg quarters, chicken breasts, big hunks of red meat, etcetera.
- The following are wonderful resources when learning raw: http://www.rawfed.com and the Raw Food Diet forum at http://www.dogster.com .

Good luck!|||Wow-not enough room here or time to answer this question. I suggest doing lots of research on raw feeding so you can figure the daily requirements for your individual dog. There is more than one raw feeding regimen. Good luck!|||I would ask a vet first because this would be the best option. Hope this does help.|||You'll need to have the correct ratios of muscle meat, organ meat, and bone, to have a balanced raw diet.

Here are some websites that have a lot of information. Good luck!

It is not the way to make a dog gain weight. A raw diet will stabilize a dogs weight. It will not bulk up your dog. Is your dog underweight compared to the breed standards or to you?|||I was just 5 minutes ago reading a thread on RAW feeding on a boxer site! VERY informative!

For adults, feed roughly 2-4% of their body weight, depending on the individual.
They need a variety of meats, as well as a small percentage of bones and organ meat (80 meat/10 bones/10 organs).
If you want to start slow, DON'T mix raw with kibble b/c it digests at different rates and can upset their stomachs. Feed kibble in the morning and raw in the evening, for example. Also start out with just meat, no bones or organs, as this can also tend to be hard on the stomach.

I suggest joining the yahoo raw feeding group.
