I want to put my dog on a half raw diet. Is this okay?
If so what foods should I give him?
I already give him a raw egg once a week or so to boost protein and calcium. also it is suppose to make his fur healthier?
Is this true?
What are some other good foods to feed him?
I will still be feeding him normal dry dog food [i think i have pedigree or purina right now] but i want him to be as healthy as possible. so i would like to add more raw foods in his diet.|||I feed primarily a high quality kibble but supplement with raw here and there.
You need to toss the Purina and/or Pedigree and use a high quality kibble for starters. Something like Orijen, Acana, Taste of the Wild, Blue Buffalo Wilderness, Wellness and so on.
Then you need research as much as you can about raw feeding. Dogs need not only raw meat and eggs, but bone, liver, and other organs.
My dogs favorite meal, a whjole raw chicken (but he is 120lbs...my little guy likes chicken quarters with bits of organ added.)|||Don't feed him raw egg! Their systems aren't designed for it! Also no tomatoes or anything acidic like it. Dry food like Pedigree or Purina contains everything nutritionally your dog needs, just follow the feeding guidelines on the pack or as set out by your vet. And always keep fresh water available. Coupled with regular exersize and plenty of love, your dog will enjoy a long and happy life with you!|||Half raw is fine, if that's all you can do right now. Don't feed kibble and raw in the same meal. I feed my dogs a whole egg, shell and all, about once a week as well as fish oil tablets a few times a week.
My dogs mostly get chicken drumsticks, pork necks, ground beef and roasts, all with bone-in.|||The red (direct translation of terms from my language, don't know the term in English XD) does make the fur of animals healthier, but don't give him the white.
But, what you need to do is research. Giving your dog half raw food won't be bad, farm dogs manage to survive perfectly fine! But, research.
Many of the cheap and common dog foods don't contain what the dog needs (vets in my country advice you to never buy these), and so what you need to do is find out what dog food is the best. Not most expensive, but best. This is extremely important. Since you won't be giving him this 100%, you need to make sure that he's getting the most he can when he does get it.
Also, you need to study what dog needs to stay healthy. You need to find a reliable source (and since people can often get things mixed up, not a place like this) where you find out what foods your dog can't have. Dogs can't have all meats, for example.
Oh, while I remember. Beans are heigh in protein, so if your dog can have them then it can also give him that. =)
Anyway, I suppose you can begin by going to some library and try to find some books on the subject. Also find out who wrote it to make sure that the information is correct. =) Then of course you can take him to a vet and get advice in person and directed to further information.
But, you have to get the opinions of experts and be prepared to do some digging. Your dog's health is extremely important and you want to make sure you're giving him everything he needs and nothing that he can't have. =D|||A bowl of Pedigree.
People who feed raw care too damn much about their dogs.
